Some Friends of Mine..

Here is one of my friends, his name is Ralphy and he is a Hungarian Vizsla, Originated from Hungary, the Hungarian Vizsla is a member of the gundog group. It is one of only 7 recognised breeds that hunt, point and retrieve (HPR). They were originally used for hunting and in falconry; today they are used as gundogs and as companions.

Fortunately for me I live by a farm, so when the weather is nice I like to go and visit my friends and they always come to greet me when I do.  Thought I'd share some pictures with you..

LOST DOG!

Would you know what to do if you lost your pet?

Well that's exactly what happened to me, I was a naughty puppy and ran away from my owner, for a full 90 minutes I was alone in the world.  I haven't yet been chipped so thought that was it for me.  We went to the park and I decided to chase a bike, I think I ran too fast and just got lost.  Thankfully, my owner did the smart thing and got me back.  In case this ever happens to you, follow these important rules and hopefully you'll be found just like I was!

  • Call your vet, if anyone finds you, they are likely to call the nearest Vet to see if you're registered.
  • Call the local council, they are likely to have a Dog Warden that circulates the area and could help in locating your lost pet.
  • Call the police, they can file a missing dog report and help look for you.
  • Make posters and get them up asap, at least if you are seen wandering the streets someone might recognize you from the posters.  Be sure to put them in the Vet and surrounding area!
  • Call the local Stray Dog Catcher, the number can be obtained from the local council.
Thank you to my owners for doing all these things, a woman had found me and the stray dog catcher who had been given a full description of me spotted me with her walking up the street and pulled over and took me back home.

Boy was I happy to see my dad again, he was mad at me for running away and I'm grounded for a month but at least I got to sleep in my bed and have a good meal that night.  I'll never do that again, that's for sure!

CRATES

Crate training is highly recommended.  It is both for the health and safety of the puppy to have a place of its' own to go to when not being directly supervised.  As a member of the canine family such as foxes and wolves, it is natural for a dog to want a "den" to feel safe and secure in.  Bull terriers love to have a blanket of their own in their crate.

Crate size is based upon the requirements of a full size dog being able to comfortably stand, turn around and lie down.  Preferably made of heavy gauge wire with two sliding action security bolts.  The wire crate allows the dog to see out in all directions, and for the owner to see in.  With a hinged top, it is easy to clean out if the puppy makes a mess.   I happen to have an extra large one that's probably for Great Danes but I love it cos it's big enough for my blanket, bowls and all my toys!!  Thanks Dad!
